I used this [link] I was not able to follow it exactly not all of my settings are the same as in the tutorial. I just got CS4 and it is strange to me as I am used to working with paint shop pro.

I'm still a beginner in photomanipulation. I have been groping my way around by searching for tutorials to teach myself. Please forgive my maybe stupid question, why would you want to change a smoothed skin cute face to a rough and "dirty looking" one? Why would that be better? Thank you for your answer.

It's not a stupid question at all :) The "rough and dirty" style is something that can be achieved without manipulation by photographers. Alot of people like the style, but I guess it's more a matter of preference. You can see the style used in fashion portraits, magazines, etc. The only examples I can think of right now is this one ([link]), and the example with the boy in this video ([link])

I assume it takes a bit of knowledge to get the effect without having to "cheat", which is why those of us who're not pros at photography use tuts like these :) Hope that answered your question.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It did answer my question, and I still do not understand why people prefer that rough look :giggle: > Maybe one day, I will understand. Thanks again!
