perhaps that would be a nice way of "erasing" the parts one doesnt need, but then, this isnt about "erasing", its about coloring. you cannot put everything into a tutorial, if you want to keep it reasonably long.

I tried to follow the tut, but I got as far as duplicating the bg layer. When I tried to go to Image--Adjustments--Color Balance, the section was grayed out & I couldn't use it. :(
